Earl Mortimer College & Sixth Form Centre was inspected most recently by Ofsted on Tuesday 10th and Wednesday 11th October, 2017. Her Majesty’s Inspector’s found THIS IS A GOOD SCHOOL.
The full report is available to view here.
We are delighted that Earl Mortimer College has been judged as Good yet again in every category and therefore the judgement for Overall Effectiveness is Good. I am sure you will agree that this is a thoroughly pleasing and well deserved outcome, owing a great deal to the hard work of everyone concerned with the College, especially the students themselves.
The sixth form did not fare quite as well with the judgement being Requires Improvement. However, this was the result of only two courses needing to offer greater work experience and further activities.
It is particularly satisfying that Earl Mortimer College has achieved this national benchmark of Good as the Ofsted criteria for evaluating schools is now the most testing and rigorous it has ever been.
Looking back over the last two decades it is a real source of pride that we have come so far. As our former incarnation, The Minster College, we were first inspected in the year 2000 and twice more after that. At no time during its existence did The Minster ever achieve “Good”.
It was only when as Earl Mortimer College and Sixth Form Centre, in October 2013, that the College ever achieved Good as a standard. To once again receive such close scrutiny in a full Section Five, two day inspection is indeed a real source of pride and achievement.
I want to share with you my personal praise for three distinct sections of our College community.
- This is what Ofsted said about our students, your sons and daughters:
“During the inspection, inspectors spoke with a large number of pupils. Students were courteous and polite … Pupils are typically articulate, confident and mature. They form a tolerant, caring community of young people.”
“Staff are proud of the school and morale is high… Teaching is strong across the school … Teachers plan lessons and activities that effectively take into account pupils’ different abilities and needs.”
“Governors are committed to the school and especially its vision of providing the best possible education for the young people of Leominster”.
I feel that we can take this moment to celebrate the success of the College and enjoy it. A big well done to all the students, staff and governors. Thank you to all those parents and carers who made a positive contribution as well.
Parent View also gives parents the chance to tell Ofsted what they think about their child’s experience with us by asking their opinion on 12 aspects of their child’s education.
