During KS3 all students study a series of topics in French and German through the 4 skill areas ( Listening, Reading, Speaking and Writing) which are all equally weighted and in a variety of tenses. The topics broadly represent 3 areas:
AREA A: EVERYDAY ACTIVITIES
Students have regular opportunities to explore topics which deal with activities they are likely to engage in at home and at school. These include home life and daily routines; food, drink and shopping; school life and health and fitness
AREA B: PERSONAL AND SOCIAL LIFE
Students have regular opportunities to explore topics which deal with aspects of their personal lives and relationships with families and friends. These include self and family, free time and leisure activities and holiday
AREA C: THE WORLD AROUND US
Pupils have regular opportunities to explore topics which deal with the physical environment including their home town or region and environmental themes. These include houses and home routines; home town and region; people, places and customs and the weather and climate.
The Students are assessed on a regular basis in all 4 skill areas throughout the Key Stage, and are awarded a National Curriculum Level at the end of year 9.
During the Key stage the students also have the opportunity to:
- Complete projects on the French / German-speaking world, School life in France / Germany and the French / German food cultures,
- Join our Language Leaders group who help teach languages at a Primary School level,
- Visit France / Germany on one of our exciting year 8 trips to either Normandy in France or Boppard in Germany.
