In March 2013 the Department for Education confirmed the amount allocated to students who did not achieve a level 4 in reading and/or maths at the end of Key stage 2, before joining Earl Mortimer College.
The Year 7 catch-up premium per pupil for 2012-2013 is as follows:
|Type of pupil||Year 7 Catch-up premium per pupil|
|Year 7 pupils that did not achieve at least level 4 in reading and/or mathematics at Key Stage 2 in 2012||£500|
The amount that was allocated in this financial year to Earl Mortimer College was £16,500. As the distribution of funds was quite late in the year, it has been made clear by the DfE that some of the funds can be carried forward in to future years to continue work with these students and build capacity.
Intervention work to support the ‘Catch Up’ pupils has been personalised and includes:
The Rapid Readers programme
Focussed skill development in lessons
Additional Literacy lesson provision
Small group work with Learning Support Assistants (LSA) and
Tutor time sessions to improve on skills in Maths and English.
Progress so far:
Of the 33 students who were awarded additional funding in March 2013, 15 students have now progressed to level 4 in both English and Maths.
22 students have now progressed to level 4 in Maths or English which means that 67% of the cohort is no longer categorized as the ‘Catch up pupil group’.
As funds can be carried forward in to future years, work will continue with these students to develop their skills in literacy and numeracy to help them make further progress.
